Zoo InternQuest is a seven-week career exploration program for San Diego County high school juniors and seniors. Students have the unique opportunity to meet professionals working for the San Diego Zoo, Safari Park, and Institute for Conservation Research, learn about their jobs, and then blog about their experience online. Follow their adventure here on the Zoo’s website!
Greetings! My name is Patrick and I am currently finishing up my junior year of high school.
When people first meet me, most people find that I am very serious, observant, and hard working, but don’t be fooled! I am very energetic and have a taste for adventure! Next year is going to be my third year starting on varsity football, and my eighth year of football in general. I also love cruising around the streets on my Harley, which is my main form of transportation. Besides my “thrill seeking” activities, I love to read, play the guitar, and lift weights.
In all my years on this planet, I have always had an intense interest in animals and wildlife as a whole. During my childhood, I spent my time observing rock lizards, taking pictures of the neighborhood birds, going to the Zoo, and watching Animal Planet. The idea of my future career really only took shape in my mind a few years ago. I took one of my usual trips to the San Diego Zoo, but it just felt different. I saw what the zoo keepers were doing, and I said to myself, “Man that’s what I want to do!” Since then, I have done all that I can to learn more about zoo keeping, like reading articles, watching documentaries, and taking more frequent visits to the Zoo. I’m pretty sure I have built up a formidable amount of information about anything animal related. When I found out about Zoo InternQuest, I just couldn’t resist! I am really looking forward to seeing what other types of career paths the Zoo has to offer besides zoo keeping, and I can’t wait to add more information to this memory bank! I am very eager to start this new adventure, and I hope you can follow along with me in these exciting times!
